gWinds is a group of many people from many different backgrounds. Lets meet a few of them!
David Gatwood (Conductor, ASCAP) is the son of two college music professors. He works as a software engineer in Geo Developer EngProd to pay for his music hobby. He plays and sings in a number of musical ensembles, including G Sharp Jazz Band, Googler Orchestra, and Ensemble Continuo, and sits on the board of directors of the Ensemble Monterey Chamber Orchestra. He is also a prolific composer, with over 150 compositions, mostly in the sacred choral space, available commercially from Simply Liturgical Music (slmusic.org).
Gabby Germanson is a Google Ads software engineer from Minnesota.
She grew up playing piano, singing in a church choir, and first met her clarinet, Claire Blackwood, in 4th grade. In high school, she played clarinet in the Minnesota All-State band 2x, received the Sousa Award (highest band honor) for her class, and was the women's Triple AAA Award (Academics, Arts, Athletics) recipient for her class. She continued playing clarinet a bit in college and was excited to help gWinds get running again after the pandemic.
Angel Aguayo was born and raised in Tucson, Arizona and first played flute in 5th grade. In high school, he received the Semper Fidelis Award for Musical Excellence and went on to play in groups like the Arizona All Region Honor Band, University of Arizona's Pride of Arizona, and their Wind Symphony.
Now working as a software engineer, he plays in ensembles across the Southwest: gWinds and Googler Orchestra in the Bay Area; Fantasy Symphony Orchestra and Marana Winds in Tucson. Angel plays flute and piccolo and has dabbled in classical guitar, bari sax, and tuba.
Kevin Peng has been making music since kindergarten and playing the clarinet since 4th grade. He participated in school bands through 12th grade.
After starting at Google, Kevin joined the pre-pandemic Google Wind Ensemble in 2019 and Googler Orchestra in 2020. Kevin is excited to help establish gWinds as a wind ensemble for Bay Area Googlers.
